Located in the Mucuri Valley, Novo Oriente de Minas has its origins in the village of Jaboti, which later became known as Frei Gonzaga, in honor of a Franciscan priest, who was one of the first local inhabitants.

In parallel with the development of Frei Gonzaga, a new agglomeration began on a farm in the region belonging to the Lord named Inácio Pereira, considering that semi-precious stones were discovered in the basement of this farm, attracting several prospectors, resulting in small commercial establishments to supply the growing need of the residents of that still-unnamed cluster.

Over time, the agglomeration gave rise to the municipality of Novo Oriente de Minas, which today exudes other charming gems, such as the beautiful rock formation known as Três Pedras; the cozy Cachoeira da Poaia, both on the route of the Pedras Preciosas Cycling Tour; and an unparalleled typical local cuisine, which can be tasted in establishments in the city.

They are famous cheeses, biscuits and irresistible sweets, which can be deliciously consumed before, during and after your trip along the Route.
